Product Review: Beyond Meat Beef-Free Crumbles and Four Ingredient Chili
Do you miss eating chili? I do, since my folks are from Texas, and chili down there is something people take super seriously and will go to blows over. I’ve eaten some vegan chili, and even make one that is pretty good which appears in Why Vegan is the New Black, but I wanted something more reminiscent of the past.
This is a fabulous throw together vegan chili recipe I came up with that worked. It’s very satisfying, remarkably flavorful, and features Beyond Meat brand Beef-Free Crumbles, which did their thing with aplomb!
We give Beyond Meat Beef-Free Crumbles
About Beyond Meat
Beyond Meat is a California company which produces soy and gluten free high protein meat substitutes made from peas. I’d seen a television interview with the owner of the company regarding a product demo they had down in California’s Silicon Valley (about 50 miles from me), and was highly impressed by what people were saying as they tasted the food offerings.
So I logged onto their website and asked to be sent a sample; the marketing department responded by sending me several VIP coupons so that I could try a couple of their products and review them without digging into my pocket, which I greatly appreciated. Hey, people don’t understand the expense involved in developing recipes for a food blog. Somebody has to BUY and COOK all this stuff first, ya know?
The Beefy Crumbles come in two flavors… Feisty and Beefy; I used the plain beefy ones for this recipe. Upon opening the package I was shocked to see how similar to cooked and crumbled ground beef they appeared to be. You can kind of see what I mean in the picture above. They didn’t have a weird smell like some meat-substitutes do. I was so happy!
Must tell you that I didn’t try eating any thawed to check taste or texture before adding them to my pot of chili, so I apologize for that. I was hungry and wanted to get my pot of chili going.
About Chilli Man Seasoning
Chilli Man seasoning is based on an award-winning chili recipe. I mean dude won several National Chili Cookoffs with this recipe, so that should tell you how good it is. I’ve used this product for years, so I always have some in my cabinet.
Chilli Man seasoning mix is available on Amazon or the company website, and is also available at Walmart. Probably a lot of other places as well. Check the list of ingredients – nothing weird or artificial. Just chili peppers, granulated onion, spices, salt, and granulated garlic. BOOM!
All you need to do is add a can of the beans of your choice (I chose black beans this time around which adds additional fiber and protein to the chili), a can of chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce, and a few seasonings.
You cannot go wrong with this simple to make, but absolutely delicious chili. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
