Black Lives Matter in More Ways Than One
While some fight the Black Lives Matter battle for judicial equality and police brutality, I have chosen to take up a personal fight against things that kill more black people than either the police or drugs. My fight is against the diseases killing African Americans based on what we as a people eat. Diabetes, cancer, hypertension, kidney disease, heart disease are decimating the black community and crippling or killing us off younger and younger every year.
Switching gears from focusing on dating/relationships to food, nutrition and cooking seemed somewhat odd, I know. But I think I’m on the right track, and did what I was supposed to do at the time I was supposed to do it.
Why?
Because over the past three months, four different people have told me that I motivated them to change their eating habits which they each felt just may have saved their lives. Do you know how happy that makes me?!
In my opinion, this is what being A BLACK LEADER is all about.
You don’t need to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars, or give speeches, or have a title or a fancy office. If you truly believe that black lives matter, all you have to do is have a mission and the drive to work hard for what you believe in.
The best leaders show others the way leading by example. Don’t preach AT them, lord your knowledge or experience over them (which does nothing but make others feel small and insignificant), and you certainly don’t harangue them for lack of knowledge or the mistakes they may make.
Instead, you talk TO people with respect, concern, and a desire to help by answering their questions or providing information. No matter how small their steps, they are going in the right direction.
When we grow and change for the better, others around us can witness the positive benefits of the changes, and can happily follow where you are leading them.
Thanks to all who propped me up with support and encouragement — you gave me the strength to return some of that to others who sorely needed it and lead them to better health and a better quality of life.
That’s black love in action baby!
